Should you start a business or buy one?

There are pros and cons to starting a business.

Pros:

Starting a business is cost-effective. You only need an idea and motivation to start building.

You experience growth in every aspect because you are the CEO, the Operator, the Manager, the accountant, everything. You’ll learn more in 3 months starting a business than you will in 4 years of school.

Freedom to choose and bring something new to the market. If you’re a creative person, starting a business can be your chance to leave your mark on the world as well as making a ton of money.

Cons:

You have to find customers and prove that the business works, especially if you choose an unproven business model.

You have to create processes and systems to deliver your product or service.

Once you get a few customers, you will spend most of your time fulfilling the orders and have no time to grow the business.

There are also pros and cons to buying a business

Pros:

The business is already established and proven. You don’t have to waste time proving your business model - instead you can focus on replicating businesses that are already successful in your industry.

There are already processes and systems in place. These exist to maintain the revenue that your business is generating.

You only need to focus on maintaining and growing the company.

Cons:

Upfront investment - it costs money to buy businesses (but not as much as you think).
